I should have written this sooner, because I saw Parasite before the Oscars. And I didn’t think it had a chance of winning. But it did and here we are. Let me make clear, I didn’t think it had a chance of winning, but I am sooooooooo glad it did.
Parasite is one of those films that is goddamn perfect in every way. Bong Joon Ho was already a master of cinema and this is his magnum opus. A hilarious class drama that highlights the growing divide between the haves and the have nots and the inherent viral tumor that is the system that supports it.
The dialogue is perfect, the script while a little long, is tight and smart. The acting is out of this world. And I can safely say, even if you watched the trailer, you have no idea what’s coming. I can’t remember the last time I was proud of a trailer for not revealing the best parts of a film. It’s so nice to be surprised again.
A well-deserved best picture. A thoughtful piece of art that entertains and teaches. This is the kind of film best pictures should be handed out to. Films that capture the era we are living in perfectly.
4 out of 4 stars.
