Another one of those missed it at the time movies. But Rush got a lot of buzz. After watching it, I’m kind of wondering why?
Perhaps because it is a true story of two Formula One rivals: James Hunt (Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Bruhl). One is a passionate, devil may care attitude romantic of a driver. And the other is a cold, calculated machine. Two extreme sides of what a driver can be in a sport that has a twenty percent chance of killing you every time you get inside a vehicle.
It’s the story of their lives couched in one season that was really all about them and their rivalry. The acting is…fine. The camera work is pretty slick. Lots of filters to ratchet up the tension. I can see why it was an interesting story, worthy of being told, but I’m guessing the book is a lot more fun to read.
By the end I just didn’t really care anymore. And the blurb on the cover claiming that Rush is Ron Howard’s best movie set me on the war path. Not in a world where Apollo 13 exists buddy.
2.5 out of 4 stars.
